Project Overview: The teaching English placement is made up of two projects: Assistant Teaching in Elementary Schools and Teaching the Adult Community Club.
Schools: Assist teachers in rural public schools with English classes.
English is of high national priority in Costa Rica; students are taught English throughout their academic career. However, most English teachers are not native speakers and many students leave school unable to speak English. As a teacher?s assistant you will be helping with conversational skills, pronunciation, teaching new words, and colloquial phrases. Students are between the ages of 6 to 13 years old.
Community Club: Teach English to adult students in the community
The Adult Community Education Club focuses on teaching English conversation to students aged 18 and older. The classes are focused primarily on conversation.
Your Role: In Schools: To encourage the children to practice their English skills and to use the new words they are taught. It will be your responsibility to make your students comfortable and confident in their ability to speak English.
At the Community Club: Your role: You will be responsible for preparing lesson plans for the class and teaching the class. You do not need to be a professional teacher to become involved in this project.
