Project Overview: The Special Needs project is comprised of 2 centers in town. One works with children from infant to 17 years olds and the other works with adults. The attendants of these two centers have several disabilities varying from blindness, deafness, autism, Asperger?s and Downs Syndrome.
The main goal of these centers is to provide the attendants with the specialized help needed to enrich their lives. The adult groups focus more on teaching life and vocational skills to help facilitate a normal life.
Additionally the attendants of these centers also receive special services such as physiotherapy, language therapy, assistance with behavioral/emotional problems, art and music appreciation.
Your Role: You will be assisting the teacher with the class in a variety of ways. There is only one teacher and aide per class so an additional pair of hands is always welcomed to provide enough attention for the students. Your help at the center also means that the professional teachers have more time with each student. You may also be invited to attend and help with therapy sessions and activities outdoors.
